 What is an LSC?
Chicago Public Schools have Local School Councils (LSC) which are responsible for three main duties:
  1. Approving how school funds and resources are allocated
  2. Developing and monitoring the annual School Improvement Plan
  3. Evaluating and selecting the school's principal

Did you know LSC members are highly trained?
All LSC members must complete 9 training modules within six months of taking office. The Board ise in charge of this training, and if an LSC member fails to complete the program within the six month period allowed, the Board will declare his/her seat vacant following a hearing. For removed parent and community members, the LSC will then appoint a qualified person who meets the eligibility requirements to fill the unexpired term. For removed school staff members, the Board will appoint a qualified person who meets the eligibility requirements to fill the unexpired term following a non-binding staff poll.
There are nine (9) mandatory lessons that LSC members have to take. The nine mandatory lessons are:
  1. Roles and Responsibilities of LSCs
  2. Meetings
  3. Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP)
  4. Budget
  5. Principal Evaluation and Retention
  6. Principal Selection
  7. Internal Accounts and Fundraising
  8. Code of Ethics
  9. Duties and Responsibilities of LSC Officers
